Cairns is the gateway to the stunning World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest, and attracts over two million visitors annually. The laid-back city boasts world-class sporting facilities, a swimming lagoon overlooking the picturesque Trinity Inlet, and a popular esplanade lined with cafes, restaurants and bustling markets. Our Cairns campus is located in the western suburb of Manunda approximately 10 minutes drive from the city centre.

Our Cairns campus features student-run training facilities including a hair and beauty salon, restaurant, cafe and coffee shop, as well as a range of support services to help you achieve your personal, educational and employment goals. The campus offers a wide range of study areas including accounting, aged care, automotive, beauty and hairdressing, building and construction, business, child care, civil construction, community services, cookery, electrotechnology, engineering, English language studies, health, horticulture, information technology, music, nursing, sport and fitness, tourism and hospitality, training and assessment, and visual arts.

Public transport
Sunbus operates bus services in the local area with the closest bus stop located out the front of the campus on Newton Street.
Cycling
If you live nearby, cycling could be another cost effective option to get to class with bike racks available on campus.

We have plenty of free on-site parking available for students at our Cairns campus.
Refrigeration and air-conditioning
The TAFE Queensland Cairns campus features state-of-the-art air-conditioning and refrigeration training facilities. Apprentices can access two CO2 freezer rooms and eight additional cold rooms, all featuring up-to-date industry technology.
Electrical facilities
The TAFE Queensland Cairns campus features a world-class capstone testing room for electrical apprentice training. The facility has three apprentice fault-finding capstone assessment cubicles and one external contractor fault finder assessment cubicle. Each cubicle has a number of household electrical items installed and the cubicles operate at low voltage, replicating both 240-volt and three-phase power supplies.
Training restaurants and cafe
Tropics Restaurant and The Queenslander are our award-winning training restaurants, giving our hospitality students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real world environment. Tropics Cafe and Coffee Shop serves a variety of dishes prepared daily by our apprentice chefs and is served by food and beverage students.
Nursing simulation room
Our learning spaces are more than just classrooms. Our hospital-standard clinical nursing simulation room is equipped with electric beds, vital signs monitors, ECG machines, IV trolleys and responsive simulator mannequins. Prepare yourself for real-world situations and practice on state-of-the-art equipment under the supervision of industry professionals.
Hair and beauty training hub
The salons give you an opportunity to put theory into practice and gain practical skills in a real world environment. Our fully operational hairdressing and beauty salon offers a range of services such as hair styling, cutting, colouring, perming, and chemical straightening. Beauty services include waxing, tinting, manicures, pedicures, spray tanning, makeup application, facials, and massages.
Music and recording studios
Is this really true? Our newly installed recording studio features state-of-the-art equipment including Pro Tools 12, Avid C24 Control Surface, and Neeve and SSL Preamps. The campus also has two performance and rehearsal spaces where weekly concert practice and monthly open-to-the-public concerts are held. Our graduates regularly achieve national and international recognition with airplay on stations such as Triple J and performances at some of Australia's biggest music festivals.
Makerspace
Participate in the culture of making and grow your creative ideas in collaboration with like-minded makers, designers, fabricators and craftspeople at the Makerspace. The facility comes complete with 3D printers, laser cutter, electronics, individual work stations and so much more. Makerspace workshops cover STEM/STEAM, coding, cloud computing, electronics, security systems, home automation and robotics.
