Pablo cutz into new opportunities

A TAFE Queensland scholarship has handed Pablo Andlovec the fundamentals he needed for the change he was looking for, setting himself on a path to directing his own business in the hairdressing industry.

TAFE Queensland scholarship recipient Pablo Andlovec is now currently studying a Certificate III in Hairdressing (SHB30416) full time at the Ipswich campus after last year completing his Certificate III in Barbering (SHB30516).

Pablo worked in the commercial industry for the past 25 years and was made redundant 18 months ago. He then decided it was time to do a career transition to barbering, where his passion lies.

"I decided that I wanted a change, to do something I would enjoy and would make people happy."

"I am a bit artistic, and hairdressing has always appealed to me. I was also intrigued by how colouring hair works," he said.

TAFE Queensland has presented Pablo with opportunities he never expected before enrolling.

"I did not expect to be managing a barbershop and, I can dye hair now. I never thought I would be able to do that, originally, I only enrolled at TAFE Queensland to become a barber," he said.

Since deciding to go ahead with his career transition Pablo has never looked back.

"I have fallen in love with the industry and I want to go all the way. My dream is to have my own shop offering barbering and hairdressing services to the public and creating employment for apprentices," said Pablo.

This prompted him to apply for a scholarship to continue with his studies.

The TAFE Queensland Scholarship Program provides each recipient with up to $5,000 to help cover the costs of studying.

"TAFE Queensland granted me a scholarship to complete my Certificate III in Hairdressing (SHB30416) which enhances my opportunities to secure my dream of owning a barbering and hairdressing studio," said Pablo.

Pablo enjoys how TAFE Queensland combines hands-on practical training and theory with real-life experiences in the salon.

"I believe TAFE Queensland does a great job in preparing you for the journey ahead," he said.

When it comes to studying make sure you are ready for change says Pablo.

"Studying will change things around for you. I have never looked back though."

"I have had impeccable assistance at TAFE Queensland and I am on the third term and advancing rapidly," he said.

His advice on studying is to not delay as life goes fast and if you have thought about it then give it a go.

"You've got nothing to lose and everything to make you reach your goal. Follow your passion if you dream it you can do it," said Pablo.
