Held on Wednesday 9 November at TAFE Queensland Toowoomba’s Futures restaurant, this event will highlight how high school students can accelerate towards their chosen career through Vocational Education and Training (VET), with a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT).

Key topics about the SAT journey will be covered, including:

  • The SAT structure including training and paid employment hours
  • Eligibility for fee-free training
  • Funding and incentives for employers
  • Workforce planning best practice.

Enjoy a hot breakfast, freshly prepared by TAFE Queensland students and network with members of local Australian Apprenticeship Support Networks, employers, school principals, VET coordinators and TAFE Queensland Faculty Directors.

ABC Radio Southern Queensland will be broadcasting live from the event and chatting with breakfast participants.

A regional representative from the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) will discuss the funding and compliance considerations of a SAT.

Rod McShannon, Executive Director School Engagement at TAFE Queensland.

Rod leads the TAFE at School program, the largest Vocational Education support network for Queensland high schools.

Kylie Lee, Manager Market and Product Development at TAFE Queensland.

With more than twenty years’ experience in the training sector, Kylie manages the ancillary services within the Darling Downs and South West Region to assist students to achieve their training goals.

Paula Hughes, Faculty Director, Personal Services, Business Technologies and Justice.

Paula provides educational leadership to a large team of educators delivering Certificate II through to Diploma level courses based in the Darling Downs and South West Region.

Elaine Wallace, TAFE at School Manager – South West Region.

Elaine manages a high dedicated team of School Engagement Officers to support the delivery of the TAFE at School program in the region, liaise with VET coordinators and provide pastoral support and advice to students.
