In this course you will gain detailed drafting and design skills, and learn how to oversee the installation and maintenance of machinery. You will also develop your knowledge of engineering processes and principles, project management, quality systems, and team building. Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a mechanical engineering technician or associate. You can also continue with further tertiary study in this area.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

Sound Achievement in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent is recommended.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.
This includes the use of:

  • safety glasses
  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • hair protection
  • You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing

If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.


It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Important information

When studying Online it is strongly recommended students follow the order of study and enrol into one unit at a time, unless otherwise advised.

 

For the Online Study Mode, no classroom time is required for twenty (20) of the thirty (30) units required to complete the full qualification. At this time the remaining ten (10) units must be completed in full or part time mode at Acacia Ridge.
Note: additional distance units may be added as they become available.

Students who successfully complete MEM60112 Advanced Diploma of Engineering – Technical can apply to continue their studies with:

  • CQ University Australia in a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Specialisation) Dual Award or
  • University of Southern Queensland in an Associate Degree of Engineering

Transition statement

Replacement qualification
This qualification has been replaced by MEM60122 - Advanced Diploma of Engineering, as of 18 December 2022. A transition period applies to enable current students to complete their study. The transition period finishes on 17 December 2023. Students who have not fully completed this qualification prior to this date will be transitioned into the replacement qualification.
