This is a very large occupation with over 182,000 job openings expected over the next five years, ensuring strong job outcomes for graduates.

You will develop a broad range of knowledge covering keyboard speed and accuracy and health and safety for yourself and others. You also have the opportunity to specialise in units that focus on payroll processing, electronic presentations, working effectively with diversity, and the use of business technology. There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

While there are no entry requirements for this course, TAFE Queensland requires you to have a good knowledge of computer basics and a sound achievement in Year 10 Maths, and English is desirable. 

All age applicants are welcome.

Resources required

Students are required to access and use technology to complete the learning and assessment activities and resources within this program. This can be through their own device and internet connection, or through TAFE campus locations closest to your home location.

To get the best education experience, your computer/device will need to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • device running Windows 10 or later (or MacOS 11 or later)
  • access to a webcam and headset with microphone
  • access to an up-to-date version of Google Chrome
  • access to a reliable high-speed broadband internet connection

Important information

Online Self-Directed
When studying Online self-directed it is strongly recommended students follow the order of study and enrol in no more than two units per intake or the units required to complete one cluster/stage, unless otherwise advised. 

Online Virtual Classroom
The online virtual classroom program is delivered virtually, meaning students will participate in online delivery. 
Duration of course is up to 8 months, delivery will consist of 3 days per week, with the ability to access recorded sessions for on-demand access. 

For TAFE at Schools delivery up to 3 terms duration, delivery will consist of 2 afternoons (3.30pm until 5.00pm) per week, with the ability to access recorded sessions for on-demand access.

This course is organised in 7 week teaching blocks. This program will require students to complete 4 sets of 7 week teaching blocks to complete the full qualification. Prior to the commencement of your course, you will receive an invitation to attend an orientation week to ensure that you are supported prior to commencement of study.

Assessment methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
